The shape of the four-poster bed creates its own spatiality, partially resisting the surrounding space and functioning as a kind of shrine where additional content can be arranged. This content is a variation on the decor of an alpine four-poster bed made by a craftsman in 1997, which serves as the artist's bed in her Salzburg apartment. The bed's unconventional painting combines an illogical mix of motifs, ranging from St. Nicholas to a detail from Botticelli's Birth of Venus. The subjective, projected nature of this personal interpretation of a historical peasant bed is emphasized by an even more subjective version, making the act of projection itself the central focus of the work. In this way, the work addresses both the fictionality of history and the construction of historicity, as well as the spatial distribution of imagery, which opens the door to an alternative reception process.
